Spring Break 07′

Having grown up in Arizona I don’t seem to recall people talking about Spring Break with the fervor that people in Michigan do.  After I experienced my first winter in Michigan I realized why so many families scratch off the days of winter one-by-one as they anxiousely await “Spring Break”

Well we didn’t fly off to any exotic location, or even Florida for that matter but I was able to leave a few hours early from work today and we had a great picnic at Hoffmaster State Park on the beach. We were one of only two families on the beach which was excellent, apparently the dark clouds scared everyone else away or they were in route to beaches in warmer climates. Anyway, I posted some photos which are located in the Holidays and Events album under SpringBreak-07. Enjoy! Oh, and btw the photos are little grainy as I took them with my new point and shoot 6mp Panasonic(which I bought with a gift certificate from Nielsen, so who can complain) anyway, I’m still learning which settings generate the best results.

The Chinese Adoption timeline right now from log-in to referral is now 17 months. If this timeline continues it would put us at a referral in January of 2008 (with travel possibly as late as March because of Chinese New Year Being on February 8th–which we cannot travel during because of the extreme busyness. It would be like traveling on Thanksgiving or Christmas in the U.S.).
Of course, things could change. The new regulations for adoptive parents have persuaded or forced many to consider other countries. Those new regulations go into effect May 1st of this year, so any not logged in by that date will have to meet the new regulations. This could cause a bit of a lull in the system and thus allow China Center for Adoption Affairs to be able to catch up a little on their back log–thus bring the timeframe back down a little. But of course, this is all speculation. We currently are just planning on not hearing anything until at least January 2008.

Chinatowns All Around!

Here are links to many Chinatowns around the US and Canada. We have only been to the Chicago Chinatown so far, but hope to visit the Philly Chinatown this June. We have also heard the Toronto Chinatown is just awesome.

Los Angeles, CA

San Francisco, CA

Honolulu, HI

Chicago, IL

Boston, MA

Las Vegas, NV

New York, NY

Philadelphia, PA

Seattle, WA

Toronto, Ontario Canada

Many large cities have a Chinatown. If you are visiting a city not listed, do a search–I was suprised to find that Philly had a Chinatown. Your city may have one too!

USA Map with Chinese Characters

I found this map of the United States with Chinese Characters. I think it will be a great thing to bring along when we go to China again, to include in our daughter’s SWI Director’s present (indicating which state we live in).

“You be the Prince.”

Recently Savannah has gotten into the Disney princesses. I’m not sure how this happened, but somehow Disney is able to corner this market with all little girls. What is it about fancy dresses, tiaras and high heels that enthrall little girls for years to come? Of course, Savannah is not satisfied to just be the princess, she always wants you to “be the prince” (I confess I end up singing the Gaston song and talking like him too–how did that happen?).

So, as you have probably seen, we got Savannah some dress-up clothes for her birthday. We haven’t been able to get her out of them since. :)

Oh, for those who would like to make an Elmo Cake, here’s a template you can use on a 9×13 cake. Just cut around the outer edges for the head shape. You’ll need the free Adobe Reader to view this document. Click the downloads button.
